Summer 2010 Tips & Recommendations from Jon Jordan

AVOID A MAKEUP MELTDOWN THIS SUMMER!!!

Here are some common sense ideas and ways to rethink your makeup routine and product choices:

LIGHTEN UP

  • Subtle color choices appear to last longer because as they dissipate, their residue isn't as apparent. There's nothing worse than obvious, leftover lipliner minus the vibrant shade of lipstick that wore off hours ago. Ditto for heavy eye makeup that starts to head south at high noon.

  • Try LIPTOXYL GLOSS or LIPTOXYL ROUGE LIPSTICK. Both of these products create an instant and noticeable plumping effect. Rely on them to create fuller looking lips instead of drawing on exaggerated, theatrical lips with lipliners that look more like a Magic Marker.
  • Select a neutral SHADOW QUAD eyeshadow kit and opt for definition, not drama
  • Switch the moisturizer that you always rely on to one with a lighter formula. Consider OIL BLOTTING HYDRATING LOTION or ACTION C MOISTURIZER (from the men's skincare line).
  • Try a PRESSED MINERAL POWDER, it feels lighter because the particles are more finely milled. It can be continuously applied to build coverage to the desired level. This product doesn't have the sheen or sparkle associated with 1st generation mineral powders. The pressed format avoids the health hazard associated with the inhalation of the airborne particles of loose mineral powder.
  • If you require a little more coverage, PRO FINISH DUAL POWDER FOUNDATION can be dusted as a setting powder, or applied more thoroughly with a pad or sponge, dry or wet, as a foundation.
  • Does your concealer come in a pot? If it does, chances are good that it has an oily consistency. That's not good for durability, and it will make your eyeliner and mascara smear. Update your effort with MINERAL PHOTO FINISH CONCEALER. It's lightweight, but opaque and stays intact.

Speaking of smearing, most traditional eyeliner pencils do just that, because of their oil content. POWDERLINER PENCILS glide on, but don't run because the pencil "lead" consists of rich, opaque powder.

FOREGO

  • In high heat and humidity, you can skip moisturizer altogether, and rely on one or more of the following products:
  • LAVENDER TONER will cleanse, refresh and hydrate your skin, but it won't dry it out. Splash it on and proceed with your makeup routine.
  • ANTI-SHINE SERUM or INSTANT T-ZONE MATTIFIER can be used in place of moisturizer, too.
  • FLAWLESS COMPLEXION GEL does it all. It contains active ingredients to improve your skin, drastically reduces shine, smoothes out and perfects the look of skin, and lightly covers imperfections. It works so well that you may be able to not only skip moisturizer, but foundation, too.

MAKE A LASTING IMPRESSION

  • Take advantage of technology. SUPERWEAR BROW DEFINER can be used to enhance brow and lash lines and doesn't wear off until you take it off. It never looks artificial, because depth of color builds with each stroke. Make sure you apply it to skin that is void of heavy moisturizer. (Use a swab to make sure your brows and lash line are clean.) SUPERWEAR MASCARA is the 21st century version of waterproof mascara. It's even more durable, but doesn't clump or smell like the old-school stuff, and is much less messy to apply. Be sure to use SUPERWEAR MAKEUP REMOVER, because both of these products really last.

MEN: fair, sparse or gray brows and lashes can be enhanced with SuperWear Brow Definer.
  • Shadow stays intact if you use a non-oily product as a shadow base. The key is to always apply a thin layer of BOTANICAL SHADOW PRIMER, followed by eyeshadow. The combination of a dry consistency on top of a moist consistency creates a bond. MINERAL PHOTO FINISH CONCEALER or FLAWLESS COMPLEXION GEL make excellent shadow bases, too.
  • Try an old standard. CAKE EYELINER stays where you put it. It's easier to use than liquid eyeliner, because you can control the consistency by the amount of water you use to mix with it. Use it only on the top lash line, and for a softer look, blend over it with a #9 BRUSH and a deep, neutral shadow. Then, with the residue on the brush, line your lower lash line for the perfect amount of definition.

RETHINK

  • A "touch-up" doesn't mean continuously piling on makeup throughout the day. Think of it this way: Powdering shiny, sweaty skin just makes mud that eventually ends up cracking. OIL BLOTTING PAPERS remove excess oiliness and perspiration without disturbing your makeup. INVISIBLE BLOTTING POWDER, despite it's stark white appearance is, indeed invisible. It works on all skin tones and diminishes shine without building up and intensifying color. A light dusting can both blend and set eyeshadow, soften blush, and serve as an anchor for lip color.

FOOL YOURSELF

  • Both men and women can take a tip from the classic men's grooming guide: After Shave typically contains menthol and creates a cooling, lasting sensation on skin. COOLING AFTER SHAVE from the men's skincare line is a modern, botanically-based, nourishing formula that updates this concept. You can take this idea and run with it--to the supermarket, drugstore, or discount department store. Look for cleansers, lotions and shampoos that contain ingredients like mint, tea tree oil, and cucumber and you'll feel fresher, longer.
  • Here's a plug for a product that works drastically better than any other in it's category. It's great for both sexes, even though you are likely to find it with men's items: GOLD BOND ULTIMATE Comfort Body Powder. There is something unique about it's formula that keeps you cool and dry all day.

STAY COOL, LOOK COOL, & BE COOL
